# Chart overlays

The **Chart Overlay** feature lets you add one or more assets (trading instruments) to an existing chart. By overlaying charts, you can clearly see relationships between different assets, such as NQ and ES or RTY. Changes in the price of one instrument may signal upcoming changes in the price of another, helping you make more informed trading decisions.

### How to Add a New Overlay

* Click the **"**<mark style="background-color:green;">**Add Overlay**</mark>**"** icon on the side toolbar.
* **Select a symbol** from the dropdown list or enter the ticker manually.

{% hint style="success" %}
**Note:** You can also add synthetic instruments as overlays. These can be created through the [**Synthetic Symbol**](/quantower/portfolio-panels/synthetic-symbols.md) panel. For example, you can create volatility indices or spreads as additional indicators.
{% endhint %}

* Adjust the overlay's visual settings, including placement on the price scales, color, and chart style.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.quantower.com/quantower/analytics-panels/chart/chart-overlays.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
